This date shall forever remain as a bloodied memory in the historical annals of India as a testimony of our vulnerability. For a moment it seemed like the impenetrable safety net of our country had been pierced. The city of dreams- Mumbai was burning.
Hundreds killed or injured. The heart of India has suddenly been exposed to an unsafe terrain it never knew existed. In the past year, several measures have been put in place to tighten security in Mumbai, including a hub for elite commandos, and new weapons, armoured vehicles and speedboats for the police. However it is quite clear that none of these have had any effect in stopping the dreaded Lashkar-E-Taiba from attacking Mumbai and exposing its vulnerable security. The attackers had planned the attack several months ahead of time and knew some areas well enough for the attackers to vanish, and reappear after security forces had left.
Several sources have quoted Kasab telling the police that the group received help from Mumbai residents which just undermines our own national sentiments being sold for economic reasons. International reaction for the attacks was widespread, with many countries and international organizations condemning the attacks and expressing their condolences to the civilian victims.
Many important personalities around the world also condemned the attacks. Today almost a year has passed away since the dreaded day but the lackadaisical attitude of the Indian security is still visible. The borders are still vulnerable and the country lacks security on all counts.
As a blogger puts it ‘ India has recovered and the incident has been made a mere footnote on textbooks’ today as we remember Kamte and the brave others who gave their lives lets hope for a better India.. a safer India.
